Volta Redonda is a city in Rio de Janeiro State - Brazil, located in the industrial region of Paraíba do Sul river. Its territorial area is only 168 km², with a estimated population of 232,287 inhabitants (1996). Since it is one of the smallest cities in the state, in geographic area, it has demographic and social-cultural problems.
Because of the social-economic profile, we verified the main target of this Project to be, through the participation in several musical groups, awaken the pleasure for music and developing the child personally and not to graduate artists. To achieve this, there is constant preoccupation with the students' individual development. This is watched and attended to separately, whether in the choice of the specific instrument or when deciding to go ahead in a musical career.
To achieve success as a group, we must see good results in willingness to learn, earnestness and self-dicipline.

The Volta Redonda Educational Foundation - FEVRE (Fundação Educacional de Volta REdonda) is an entity supported by the City Hall with a total attendance of more than 10,000 students of Junior High and Senior High Schools. Five Schools belong to it:

• Getúlio Vargas School
• João XXIII School
• José Botelho de Athayde School
• Themis de Almeida Vieira School
• Delce Horta Delgado School

These schools receive the students that come from Municipal Elementary Schools.
